Fiberglass Pools
Fiberglass pools are a big hit all across America for many obvious reasons. Who doesn’t want to beat the summer heat with a private backyard pool? Along with luxury patios, fireplaces, covered structures, and outdoor kitchens, these are among the hottest backyard installations.
Why are they so popular, and what do you need to know about the building process? We’ll give you a bird’s-eye-view here, but you’re welcome to call us anytime to learn how to design one for your Kansas City home.
Why Fiberglass Pools? What are the Advantages of this Approach?
We offer two different vendors that carry many sizes, colors, and shapes. The options get better all the time as the industry grows and develops to meet the expanding customer demand.
Hinkle Outdoor Living offers fiberglass swimming pools exclusively. This is because they’re the fastest and most effective ones to build thanks to advanced manufacturer designs. We don’t have to worry over as many temperamental issues with the materials and measurements.
On a concrete floor, however, you have to contend with the surrounding elements. A warm day could dry the concrete faster than expected and make the process much more complicated. Fiberglass is already pre-constructed, so all we have to do is install it.
This also eliminates most homeowner maintenance later down the road. Plus, it has solid manufacturer and service warranty coverage.
Three Essential Components for Pool Installation
Hinkle Outdoor Living always focuses on three essential components during any pool project: 1) Design, 2) Drainage, and 3) Functionality.
It’s important to pay attention to functionality because this deals with how homeowners use and access the pool. For example, you’d want to look at how the stairs are positioned regarding the elevation, but also the amount of gravel on hand. Of course, we always start with effective design, which is the only way to guarantee reliable drainage and functionality.
Your Vision
Timetable for Installing Fiberglass Pools?
How long does it take to install a fiberglass swimming pool?
The installation process is surprisingly quick. We would have the pool in the ground, with plumbing and backfilled, within about 10 working days. The pools themselves ship from one of two plants from either Iowa or Illinois, which are about four hours from us.
Once the fiberglass pools arrive, a large crane will hoist them into the excavated hole we prepared. That’s most of what it takes to construct a fiberglass pool paradise in your backyard.
What Happens if You Install a Pool the Wrong Way?
Are there ways other swimming pool contractors cut corners in the process?
Sometimes in this industry, it’s possible to dig or excavate improperly, which will yield terrible results or at least delay finishing the project. Pools can fail if they’re over-dug, which is why we use very careful measurements and lasers to get everything precise.
Another way to cut corners happens when other installers will leave leveling rails in the soil beneath the pool. Over the course of time, you can actually see these at the bottom of the fiberglass pool. We’ve also seen contractors apply far too much gravel, or try to use the dirtier gravel from the hole (which can cause the pool to float).
Ultimately, these shortcuts and mistakes will cost you a lot of money in the long run. At Hinkle Outdoor Living, we’re heavily process-driven with everything we do. Our motto is “engineered for entertaining,” because we insist on following a step-by-step procedure.
You can have the best design in the world, but if you follow a haphazard process and don’t get every step right, you’ll suffer suboptimal results (even a ruined pool). Our team likes to examine every facet, especially good drainage.
Regulations and Permits for Pools
What about the regulatory aspects involved with these tasks?
Like any other trade, we have plenty of building specs to follow, especially for a permanent structure such as an in-ground swimming pool. Hinkle Outdoor Living is a Class C general contractor, which means we follow all building specifications, pull the relevant permits, and don’t require homeowners to do it themselves.
Overall, everything you see here comes from experience, training, education, and our three core focuses: drainage, functionality, and design.
