Do you have an area of your home that desperately needs some TLC? You’re not alone! Owning a home is rewarding, but maintaining it can be challenging.
It’s safe to say that we had our work cut out for us with this project. Not only was this backyard rather unsightly, the uneven concrete was creating a potentially dangerous situation. Over the years, as the foundation of the home settled, the concrete patio became detached from the home. Additionally, the concrete slabs that the previous contractor installed were not structurally secured.
The Before …
You’ve heard it before – a picture says a thousand words! This backyard required a complete gut. Concrete slabs were shifting and the fence was caving in.
We’re not shaming backyards like this. After all, we’re in the business of fixing these kind of problems!
The fence was also to the point where it was dangerous. Notice the warping of the wood.
The Design
The homeowner wanted to incorporate an existing tree into the patio design. Additionally, it was important that there be no maintenance associated with this backyard space. Thus, we designed a patio that would take up the entire greenspace area. Can we get an “amen” for no mowing?! Ha!
From the drawing, you’ll notice the AC unit area. We removed the concrete slab next to the AC unit, covered the area with weed barrier mat and topped it off with river rock.
Construction
Once we removed the concrete slab and the fence, we began forming for the new patio. As always, we prepped the patio with gravel and rebar. This ensures that the patio will last for many years to come!
Check out those beautiful new steps! Leo, Ivan and Bryan did a killer job pouring the new concrete patio!
The Transformation!
Talk about an amazing transformation! Our guys really knocked it out of the park with this one. Incorporating the tree into the design is probably one of our favorite features of this project. The new fence also makes a huge difference!
This homeowner wanted to keep the patio simple and opted for regular broom finished concrete.
For the river rock bed, we used our most loved blend in the shade Missouri.
A river rock bed is a beautiful and low maintenance option for small backyards. These homeowners won’t have to pull weeds anymore! Yippie!
The fence that abuts up to the river rock is actually (unfortunately) the neighbors, so we didn’t get to tackle that aspect of the backyard.
This beautiful fence was created by our talented foreman, Rene! Isn’t it great?!
