Building an outdoor living project can be intimidating and overwhelming. The truth is, these projects cost a pretty penny! Especially if you want them done correctly! At Hinkle Hardscapes, we pride ourselves on our work. We understand that if you are spending your hard earned money on a home improvement project, you want the outcome to be something you love.
We’ve been building outdoor living spaces since 2007, and we have no plans to slow down! These projects are not only our line of work, they’re our passion! And, there’s nothing we love more than hearing positive feedback from our clients.
In this blog post, we would like to highlight one of our recent clients from Raymore, MO. John and Heather Wolverton are busy parents of 3 active daughters. After a long day of work and then following the girls to extra curricular activities, Mom & Dad needed a private oasis in their own home. They wanted a space where they could entertain friends and family on the weekends, and where they could unwind after a busy day of shuffling kids around.
Here’s the process of how we turned their backyard from boring to extraordinary.
The Design
A beautiful hardscape project always starts with a functional design. Not only is it important the that design is aesthetically pleasing, it also needs to be functional so that the space is long lasting. This is one of the main reasons why it’s so important to do your research when it comes to hiring a hardscape contractor. Many projects look “good” online, but do you know if the project will last for years to come? Does the contractor understand the importance of having a plan for grading and drainage? The sad truth is that many contractors do not.
Initially, these clients requested a covered structure so that they could enjoy the view of the lake – rain or shine! Once they met with one of our designers, the rest of the elements fell into place.
Ken Gibson, our Senior Hardscape Designer, knew that he wanted to take full advantage of the view of the backyard. After all, John and Heather have a stunning lake front property! By creating a patio design that stretched the length of the house, these homeowners are now able to enjoy the view of the lake from all angles!
Once the covered structure was decided on, it seemed natural to add a fireplace to create a focal point. This allowed the covered structure area to serve as a true living space. A grill station was also incorporated into the design. After all, what’s an entertaining space without a place to cook up some delicious food!?
The Transformation
We don’t like to toot our own horn, but WOWZA! I think it’s safe to say that our crew really knocked this project out of the park. Father and son duo, Rene & Rene Sr., took the lead on this project. Their meticulous attention to detail made this patio the masterpiece that it is!
This aerial view of the backyard captures the design of the patio. Notice the curves in the design, and the vibrancy in the color of the concrete. This makes a huge difference in comparison to a standard rectangular concrete slab.
This custom stone veneer fireplace really takes the cake on this project! This was arguably the most time consuming aspect of this renovation, but the time spent was well worth it! I’m sure most would agree.
The stone that we used for this was a beautiful blend of dry-stack manufactured stone. Check out how gorgeous those caps are! The the stone veneer is called Yukon Cutface. The caps are in the shade Tennessee.
We created a matching grill station on the opposite side of the patio. After all, what’s a party space without some grub?
For this stamped concrete patio, we opted for a classic and subtle design. When you have gorgeous stone veneer elements, you want to pick a stamp pattern that will compliment it. In this case, we used our Monster Slate stamp in our beautiful Slate Grey color. We polished off the perimeter of the patio with our signature Charcoal border.
