Over the last 12 years, we’ve helped over 2,500 Kansas City homeowners build their dream outdoor entertaining space and we can help you do the same! Our team has decades of education and experience in design, hardscaping, and construction. We’ve completed a wide range of projects – from outdoor kitchens and covered structures to entire pool-and-spa packages. We’ve posted these projects extensively, but there’s one backyard element that deserves more recognition – decks! In this post, we’re sharing our deck building process from start to finish.
Why you should consider adding a deck and patio to your home
There are multiple benefits to adding a deck or patio to your home. Firstly, they increase livable square footage, creating more space in which you can spend time with friends and family. Secondly, whereas most remodeling projects are time-consuming and difficult; decks and patios are simple ways to increase the retail value and overall appeal of your home. They provide a comfortable and attractive environment in which to enjoy the weather; and best of all, they can be customized to complement any yard. Regardless of size or material, decks and patios are an impactful feature.

The transformation began with a draft sketched by one of our designers.
Once the draft was approved, a 3D rendering was created to fully visualize the space. Complete with material selections and landscaping, the model shows exactly what the project will look like when complete.
Next step – demoing the old deck to make way for a new and improved version!
Once the old deck was completely removed, the footing was dug to support a retaining wall.
Next, a beautiful retaining wall and patio were built to occupy the area beneath the deck. For this project, the clients decided on stamped concrete, specifically the Ashlar slate stamp in the color chestnut with a chocolate monster slate border. The patio was perfectly complimented by the Belgard Weston wall in the shade Brittany Beige.
The final phase – constructing the deck itself! Both the body and stairs were assembled using treated lumber. Black aluminum balusters made for a sleek finish.
