Hinkle Hardscapes may be known for patio work, but our expertise doesn’t end there! We are your custom hardscaping solution for fireplaces, grill stations, pergolas, and fiberglass pools. If you’re adding an outdoor entertainment space in the new year, there’s one feature that will go the extra mile to create an unforgettable experience – covered structures! These architectural elements are the epicenters of outdoor living. They can be customized to house kitchens, hearths, dining areas, bars, spas, or all of the above!
In this month’s transformation blog, we’re taking a closer look at a covered structure project we completed in Parkville, Missouri. Our clients loved to entertain outdoors, but their small deck just wasn’t cutting it. They needed a season-proof living space large enough to host friends and family, and a covered structure was the perfect solution!
The first order of business was removing the wood deck and pouring a concrete base. Once the groundwork was complete, we moved on to raising the roofline. For all architectural projects, we follow engineered plans to ensure that the construction is sound and built according to code.
With the gable at the proper height, the crew was able to begin building the framework.
Next, the roof was enclosed and wired for electricity. On the interior, exposed beams and paneling allow the wood’s natural beauty to take center stage.
On to the patio! An Urbana paver overlay in the color Aspen was added on top of the concrete foundation. The stone flooring spans both the open patio and covered structure to create one cohesive space.
The clients selected Weston Wall blocks in the shade Brittany Beige for their vertical elements. A Black Diamond accent stripe adds visual intrigue to the kitchen, post wraps, and fire pit.
Once the water shield and shingles were in place, the structure was equipped to protect from all elements. It will provide shade in the summer and trap heat during the winter, allowing the family to spend time outdoors regardless of the weather!
The kitchen was outfitted with granite counters, stainless steel storage, a farmhouse sink, built-in grill, and a designated alcove for their Green Egg smoker. The raised bartop is the perfect spot to keep the chef company or enjoy a drink while watching the game!
To ensure that the structure was visually cohesive with their home, we stained the wood a rich brown and painted the siding, soffits, and trim to match the exterior of the house.
The final result – a stunning open-air living room that can be enjoyed year-round!
