Timeless & Modern
If you’re looking to update your backyard, this blog post is for you! Adding an outdoor living space to your home creates an additional space for your family to enjoy. These backyard additions are great for folks who love to entertain, or for people who are looking for a place to relax and unwind after a busy work day. They’re also a great investment in your home, and offer an excellent ROI.
If you’re looking to escape the traditional trends, there are several ways to modernize an outdoor living space. Selecting the right colors, shapes and material selections are a few ways to guarantee you’ll get the modern space you’ve been dreaming of.
Setting The Tone
Modernizing your space has a lot to do with color. Reds and browns express traditionalism while grays and whites suggest a more modern look. This stamped concrete patio is stained using our beloved Slate Gray color. We added a Charcoal accent border to give the space that extra “wow factor”.
It’s All About The Shapes
Modern doesn’t mean plain! This patio has curvatures that give the space a really unique look. The patio was stamped using our Monster Slate stamp. This gives the patio beautiful, yet subtle texture. Additionally, diamond cuts were sawed by hand. This process is time consuming, but creates a really fun design in the concrete.
You’ll also notice that this fire pit is square shaped, giving the space a unique and fresh look.
Stone Veneer
Don’t feel limited by your design selections! Traditional outdoor living spaces are often made with block-like materials. Stone veneer is a much more modern looking option. Although beautiful, this type of stone work is very labor intensive — and the price tag certainly reflects it.
Built-In Furniture
If you’re looking for a statement piece in your backyard, a seating wall is a great option. These structures can be made in a variety of different materials, allowing you to create a unique and custom look. Not only do these structures look great, they’re also highly functional. Additionally, if you have a slope in your backyard, a retaining wall can be customized to serve as a seating wall.
Plus — let’s face it, once you’ve put all your money into your hardscape project, you probably don’t want to have to buy furniture. A seating wall doesn’t take up any patio space and you won’t have to worry about soggy cushions or rusty furniture. A built-in seating wall is a perfect, low maintenance, and long-term option!
Seasonal Decor
You can easily switch up the look of your patio as the seasons change. Throw pillows and potted plants are an easy way to keep the space looking fresh and unique. Adding these modern elements will create the look you’ve been searching for.
Grout That Stands Out
You don’t have to go with the standard beige grout! Let’s face it, over time, grout can get dirty and discolored. These homeowners opted for us to stain the grout. Not only does it keep the space looking new, it gives a beautiful contrast to the stone veneer.
