5 New Years Resolutions For Your Backyard

It’s that time of the year again — a time to recharge and set goals.

If you’re anything like us, 2017 came and went in the blink of an eye. Each year seems to move faster than the one before.

Resolutions are often made with the best of intentions. Many of us swear that we’re going to finally lose weight, exercise, drink less alcohol, recycle, eliminate stress and spend more time with our family. Some of these are easier to stick to than others, but all are well intended to help us live a happier and more prosperous life.

When it comes to our homes, resolutions are often put on the back burner. After all, it’s no secret that home improvement projects can be expensive and time consuming. Yet, it’s important to invest the effort into your home. When the house is cleaner, you feel less overwhelmed. When all the maintenance has been done, you feel less stressed. When you finally build your perfect at-home sanctuary, you experience more joy.

For most people, a private backyard paradise is a welcomed addition to their home. We’ll be the first to admit that a backyard makeover is no small undertaking. Maybe you’re not ready for a complete remodel, but adjusting your backyard in a few ways can really enhance your spirit and positive energy.

So even if you keep those 10 lbs this year, making your backyard a priority is great and well-rewarded promise to yourself. Here are 5 ways you can make your backyard awesome for 2018.

1). Add Something The Whole Family Will Enjoy

If you want your family to spend time together, it’s important to find something that the whole family will enjoy. This could be anything from a croquet set, a game of horseshoes, a fire pit, or even a pool.

2). Bring Meals Outside

What’s better than a juicy steak and corn on the cob? Enjoying some delicious food outside will create the perfect ambiance for a family meal. You’ll be surprised how enjoyable this is compared to a typical meal at the kitchen island. Of course, you could take it one step further by adding a grill station to your patio. Grill stations keep the mess outside and makes meal prep and entertaining a breeze.

3). Consider Lighting Options

Your backyard enjoyment doesn’t have to be at the mercy of the sun! Welcome evenings by adding lighting to your backyard. You can DIY the lighting with string lights and solar pendants, or you can have a set of beautiful path lights installed around the perimeter of your patio.

4). Encourage Activity

It’s important that your home includes a space for relaxation, but incorporating some activity is just as important. Getting yourself moving will ease any tension and help you sleep better at night. A basket ball court, a soccer goal, or a pool can provide a great source of exercise.

5). Entertain The People You Love

This year, make it your goal to surround yourself with those who bring you the most happiness. After all, that’s what life is really suppose to be about! This can be as simple as lighting up the barbecue, an afternoon card game in the sun, or evenings spent gathered around the fire pit. If there’s one resolution that you don’t break this year, make it all about those you love. Life comes and goes so quickly. It’s important to take the time to create memories with your favorite people. Time spent together will be something you’ll look forward to and continue to cherish for years to come.
